FROM THE CLUB PRESIDENT:

Hello Club Members,

What a great way to finish our monthly camping trips for the 2007 season with so many of our club members attending the October camping trip to Ocean lakes.  Thanks to Chuck and Brian for doing a great job as Wagon Masters.  It was especially nice to have Rex and Peggy join us on this trip as Rex is recovering from his surgery.  Thanks to Rex for furnishing the door prizes along with the two special door prizes.  Our club is fortunate to have such a good sponsor as Rex and Sons.  It was also nice to have Travis and his family join us on this trip.  Hopefully, Rex, Travis, Jonathan and their families will join us on as many trips as they can next year.

Please try to make the November 17th dinner meeting at Rex's showroom.  Dinner will start at 1:00 PM with the meeting starting right after dinner.  Please be thinking of places you would like to go next year on our camping trips. The November meeting will go faster if members already have put some thought into where they would like to go next year.  Dave and Denise Calary have already volunteered to be Wagon Masters for a trip to Charleston next October. Club members will vote to decide where we camp on our monthly trips.  We will also be looking for volunteers to be Wagon Masters on our trips next year.  Most any club member will be glad to help a new Wagon Master if they volunteer.

The last item I would like to discuss is the election of officers.  Chuck Murdock will be President next year.  He will be a great President and has many good ideas.  Randy Freeman will be 1st Vice President. We need nominations for 2nd Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Club Representatives.  Please be thinking of whom you would like to see in these positions so they can be nominated and voted on in November.

Brian Batts and Dianne Youngs both have asked if someone would volunteer for their positions as Treasurer and Secretary as they have other commitments.  Both have done an exceptional job and I would like to thank them for all their help the last couple of years.  I would like to thank all of the club officers for their support and hard work.

I would like to thank everyone in the camping club for their support and their willingness to help anytime they have been asked during my term as President.  We have had some great camping trips with very good participation from our members.

I would especially like to thank Rex and Sons on behalf of the whole camping club for their continued support of our club. Rex is always there for our club and willing to help any way he can when he is asked.  THANKS REX and SONS!

I look forward to seeing everyone in November.                                                                                                                                                                                                       Bill

UPDATE FROM OUR CLUB SPONSOR

Dad and brother both said the trip at Ocean Lakes was awesome.  With two jobs, Travis has not been able to enjoy camping in a couple years.  Dad and Mom had a relaxing time and enjoyed visiting with everyone.  Wish I could have gone, but someone has to hold the fort down and little one isn't so mobile at this time. November 9th is the deadline for head count for the November 17th dinner. Extra parking at Carolina Bar-B-Q next to us.

Jonathan

FROM THE CLUB SECRETARY

October trip to Ocean Lakes has got to be right up there in numbers as one of our biggest membership participation ever.  We had 27 or 28 units (kept losing count).

Barry and I arrived on Friday and attended the rally dinner, as did many of our members.  It was a great meal provided by Middle of the Island who happens to be the same group catering our dinner on November 17th at Rex & Sons.  A few games of Bingo were offered after the meal and then we headed back to our site and sat around for a while to chitchat with fellow campers nearby.

Saturday, we relaxed and enjoyed everyone’s company who happened to stop by.   It was really nice to see Rex & Peggy as well as Travis and his family.  We thank them for all of their support.

Saturday night was our potluck dinner with a meal fit for a king (and queen).  After dinner, during our meeting, we discussed and received officer nominations and suggestions for next year’s trips.

Everyone gathered together at different times throughout the weekend.     There were a few “first time campers” on this trip and club members were there to help or answer questions when needed.  That’s what’s so great about the camping club and why we enjoy this so much…….it doesn’t matter what your needs are or even how well you know someone.  There is always, a “good morning” to start your day, a band-aid for your boo-boo, kind words, and a helping hand when we least expect it.  Even, when us “seasoned” campers need help someone is always there to offer advice and support or to kick our butts for being careless.

I want to bring you up-to-date on some of the items that you need to be thinking about before the November meeting, so please bear with me.

CAMP ALL YEAR (January through December) – yes/no - we’ll vote in November.

CLUB T-SHIRT - An order sheet for club t-shirts was passed around at the October meeting.  For those that placed an order, we hope to have the t-shirts ready in time for the November 17th meeting.   We are planning to order a few extra of each size to have them available at the meeting.   If we are out of your size/color, I will have order sheets there if you wish to place an order.  The shirts are the same colors as our club flags – choices, sizes & prices as follows:

Yellow T-shirt with green lettering (no pocket)

S-XL $6.50   -   2XL-4XL etc. $8.50

Green T-shirt with yellow lettering (w/pocket)

S-XL $7.50    -    2XL-4XL, etc. $9.50

Note: We don’t have prices for youth sizes yet.

2008 CAMPING TRIPS  -  We are fortunate to have volunteers to be Wagon Masters for a few of the trips in 2008.   Listed below are some of the campgrounds that were mentioned for your consideration and vote.  So, be thinking about where you’d like to go and bring your suggestions, your calendars, spring break info, etc. to the November meeting so we can make informed decisions.

·        Charleston SC area - KOA, Mount Pleasant, SC (meeting facilities) – (October) – Wagon Master, Dave Calary

·        Hunting Beach State Park, Murrells Inlet, SC – info from the Butzin’s – dates available are March 14/15, April 18/19, May 16/17, June 20/21, July 18/19 and August 15/16 in 2008. 133 sites. 24 full hookup ($25-$28). 109 are electric & water ($23-$25) w/dump station available at campground.  Butzin’s volunteered to Wagon Master if this location is chosen for the month of May.

·        Willow Tree, Longs, SC(meeting facilities) – (May) - Butzin will Wagon Master.

Note:  The Butzin’s have volunteered to Wagon Master in the month of May at either Willow Tree or Huntington Beach State Park.

·        Twin Lakes RV Resort & Campground, Chocowinity, NC (meeting facilities) – months June-August  -  Robin Currie said he and Cynthia could be easily convinced to Wagon Master if this campground was selected as a site.

·        Midway Campground & Resort, Statesville, NC (meeting facilities) – suggested by Robin Currie

·        KOA, Fredericksburg, VA (shuttle to Washington DC) June or July – Freeman’s volunteered to be Wagon Master

·        KOA, Williamsburg, VA (theme parks, historic sites) – suggested by Robin Currie – his family often camps there.

·        Raccoon Holler – north of Boone – suggested by Kim Harrell

·        KOA, Smithfield, NC (meeting facilities)

·        Daddy Joe’s – Tabor City, NC (meeting facilities)

Bill Martin has done a magnificent job as president and his continuous support these past few years were very much appreciated.   As you know, Bill will pass the president position to Chuck Murdock and Randy Freeman will step in as Vice President.

Listed below are a few nominations we received at the October meeting.  I’ve listed some of the duties for each office.    Note: You have to own a Coachmen RV to be a club officer.

2nd Vice President – conducts meetings when President not available

·        Dave Calary

·        Ray Harrell

Treasurer – receives/disburses funds & continuous communication w/Secretary regarding memberships, etc.

·        Ivey Garner

·        Peggy Martin – Peggy suggested someone living closer to Wilmington should be considered

·        Janice Garner

Secretary – publish & distribute newsletter, membership roster, correspond with Coachmen and with club members.

has given me the opportunity to meet members and become more involved in the club. Barry and I are hoping to travel a few months next year and my biggest concern is giving the secretary position all of the attention it needs.  The majority of the correspondence can be conducted via email but it’s probably time for some fresh new ideas.  I encourage anyone who has an interest to let someone know.  I believe you’ll find it a rewarding experience.

Club Representatives – attend district meetings.  Spokes person – talk to people about club

activities and encourage fellowship & membership.

·        Keith & Sharon Hartung

·        Bill & Peggy Martin

Barry and I are already looking forward to next years camping trips. We hope to camp right through the winter months as well.  It is my understanding; some members are camping at the KOA in Wilmington the weekend of November 17th.

P.S.   I included a list of Wagon Master responsibilities elsewhere in this newsletter and I hope that you will consider helping out and volunteer to be Wagon Master for one of the camping months in 2008.   It is a good way of meeting more of your fellow campers and it’s quite enjoyable.

I hope I haven’t forgotten anything.  If you have questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.    I look forward to seeing you in November.

                                                                                                                         Dianne
